An eventful month for Emendo!
On 13 December, Emendo Bioscience was one of the companies profiled
at the celebration of the 10th year of the BBSRC Biotechnology YES
competition held at the Dali Universe gallery in London (more
info click here).
Rachel Carol said, "I was delighted to be invited to the event.
I felt very nostalgic seeing the excitement of this year's finalists
and meeting some of the judges and mentors again. Biotechnology
YES is a great scheme for scientists to learn how research in biology
can be combined with business and entrepreneurship. Happy Birthday,
BBSRC Biotechnology YES!"

On 15 December, the journal Nature published original research
by Rachel Carol. The work, which Rachel did as a post-doctoral researcher
at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, describes how a protein, called
SCN1, helps specialised root hair cells keep their shape. For more

BBSRC Biotechnology YES competition final with the Green Revolutions
team www.biotechnologyyes.co.uk.
To win the competition, organised by the BBSRC and University of
Nottingham, the team had to come up with an imaginary company based
on the biology they study. James Hadfield, Jiahui Zhu, Rachel Carol
and Matthew Perry, all from John Innes Centre, Norwich, came up
with the idea of a business that developed "no-mow" grass
(a modified grass that never needs cutting) for use on golf courses. |
